Foldable telescopic crane or knuckle: how to choose
October 6, 2026Europort Istanbul 2026 opens on 4 November at the Yenikapı Expo Center, and the HEILA Cranes team will be there, sharing Stand 2033 with our Turkish partner Marin Istanbul. The show runs for three days and brings together shipbuilding, shipping and marine equipment, which makes it the right place to talk about deck cranes with the people who specify, buy and operate them.
If you are planning a newbuild, a retrofit or a replacement crane, this is a short conversation worth having in person. Below is where to find us, what we can go through together, and what is useful to bring.
Europort Istanbul 2026: dates, venue and opening hours

What we can go through at the stand
HEILA Cranes has more than 45 years of experience in marine and offshore cranes, with a range from 3 tm to 1,500 tm and more than 3,300 foldable telescopic cranes manufactured and delivered.
Which part of that range matters depends on the vessel. The HLM series is very compact and light, with rotation up to 360° and safe operation even at higher heel and trim angles, which suits multifunctional workboats, tugs and pontoons. The HLRM knuckle telescopic range covers 80 to 1,500 tm and is the answer when high capacity has to fit a limited deck. The HR series is devoted to subsea operations, fitted with active heave compensation, AOPS and MOPS.
For dredging and port works there are specialised dredging cranes able to operate at extreme heel and trim angles, and constant tension winches that hold a pre-set line pull while floating pipelines are positioned and connected.
If you are still weighing one configuration against another, our article on choosing between a foldable telescopic crane and a knuckle telescopic crane is a useful starting point before the meeting.
The vessels the range is built for
Across the markets we serve, the same configurations keep coming back: multicat, tug and workboats; dredging and port works; fishing and aquaculture; yacht support vessels and superyachts; navy and coast guard; oceanographic research vessels; subsea and deep water; offshore oil and gas and wind.
Each of them stresses a different part of the specification. A dredger cares about heel and trim angles and about holding a line pull steady. A workboat cares about folded footprint and weight. A subsea vessel cares about reach, lifting height and keeping the load from swaying. A yacht support vessel cares about all of that plus the finish, which is why any RAL topcoat is available over a standard paint system to ISO 12944-5 C5 Very High and ISO 12944-9 CX Offshore.
Bring the vessel and the operation, and the conversation at Europort Istanbul 2026 starts from the right end of the range.
Delivery, spare parts and support
A crane is a long relationship, and the questions that decide a purchase are rarely only about the load chart. Three of them come up at every show.
How quickly can it be delivered. Production processes are streamlined for faster delivery, and the knuckle telescopic range can be supplied as standard models or completely custom made, with the entire range deliverable quickly.
What happens when a part is needed. Critical spare parts for standard cranes, including cylinders, seal kits and electrical components, are held in stock in Italy. The spare parts ticket service gives support and feedback within 48 hours, and standard spare parts packages can be agreed at the time of purchase.
Who is there afterwards. HEILA and its service partners provide technical support, on-site repairs, installation, commissioning, remote assistance and original spare parts worldwide. A refurbishment program covers everything from component repairs to a full crane rebuild, with a new warranty period and a new anti-corrosion treatment.
What is useful to bring
The fastest conversations start from three things: the deck layout you can give the crane, the loads you need at the distances you work, and whether the duty is harbour or offshore.
With those, our engineers can point to a configuration while you are at the stand rather than after the show. Certification requirements are worth mentioning early too: cranes comply with ISO 19354, with EN 13852-1 and API-2C if required, and are certifiable under ABS, BV, CCS, DNV, LR and RINA on request.
If the figures in an offer are what you want to go through, our guide on how to read a marine crane load chart explains what the numbers assume.
Key takeaways
- Europort Istanbul 2026 runs from 4 to 6 November at the Yenikapı Expo Center, 10:00 to 18:00 each day.
- HEILA Cranes shares Stand 2033 with its Turkish partner Marin Istanbul.
- Bring deck layout, loads at working distance and the duty, and a configuration can be identified at the stand.
- Spare parts in stock in Italy, feedback within 48 hours and worldwide service partners are part of the specification, not an afterthought.
